Caring is Sharing: Women Helping Women
Colline may be short in stature, but she possesses one heck of a big heart! Colline volunteers with the Breakfast Club which feeds Nanaimo’s homeless the first and fourth Saturday every month at the 7-10 Club on Prideaux Street. Additionally, Colline volunteers with the Nanaimo Street Store, where her and fellow volunteers gather donations of clothing, bedding, and sleeping bags which are then distributed to the those in need.
Colline shared that her work supporting marginalized populations opened her eyes to how many homeless women and families are living in their vehicles right here in Nanaimo. This prompted Colline to want to do something more to help, so she created the Caring is Sharing: Helping Women in Need project.
Colline’s compassionate project involves her filling purses for those in need with basic hygiene items, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene products and other needed items. Many of these items are donated; however, Colline also needs cash donations to purchase what isn’t donated (such as feminine products).
Colline’s filled purses are distributed through Samaritan House, and the Street Store.
Colline has future plans to start a similar campaign for men where she will fill pencil cases with razors, nail clippers, soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer, et cetera.
For me, it’s all about Caring and Sharing…just doing something that will put a smile on a face, even only for a few minutes.
If you have needed items such as purses and hygiene items, or cash to donate to Colline’s Caring is Sharing project, please contact her directly at:
Great work, Colline! 😊
